简介:薛永泉,2000年与2003年分别获得北京大学学士与硕士学位,2008年获得美国普度大学(Purdue University)博士学位,之后在美国宾州州立大学(Pennsylvania State University)从事博士后研究,2012年5月作为第二批青年千人计划引进人才到中国科学技术大学天文系任教授。主要研究方向为利用多波段(尤其是X射线)深场巡天来研究活动星系核的相关物理过程和现象,例如,活动星系核的统计,超大质量黑洞和星系的协同演化,宇宙X射线背景辐射,遮蔽活动星系核以及活动星系核X射线光变等。

Abstract:
Temporal and spectral variability is a defining and ubiquitous feature of active galactic nuclei (AGNs), and variability studies are valuable for probing AGN physical properties. AGN X-ray variability is of particular interest, because it is generally more rapid and has larger amplitudes than variability at longer wavelengths; moreover, X-ray emission is nearly universal among AGNs and it originates from the innermost part of the system, thus being able to probe the immediate vicinity of the supermassive black hole. In this talk, after providing some background information, I introduce our recent works regarding AGN X-ray variability, aiming to constrain/probe the low-frequency slope, characteristic break frequencies, and high-frequency slope etc. of the AGN X-ray power spectral density, which place useful constraints upon theoretical models for AGN variability. I then conclude this talk with some brief prospects.
