Gu Qiusheng was born in Jiangyan, Jiangsu Province in July 1967. He entered the Department of Astronomy at Nanjing University in 1986, received his doctorate in 1996 and has worked there since then. From November 1999 to November 2000, he was engaged in post-doctoral research at the Institute of Astronomy at UNAM (Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico). He visited the European Southern Observatory and Fluminense Federal University in Brazil in 2003. From September 2005 to July 2006, he visited Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. In 2006, he was selected into the Program for New Century Excellent Talents. Now he serves as the associate dean of the School of Astronomy and Space Science, a member of the Association of Computational Physics, and a member of LAMOST science committee.
He teaches Galactic Physics and Active Galactic Nucleus
His research focuses on central black hole activity in nearby galaxies, stellar formation in the central region of the galaxy, the relation between galactic nucleus activity and starburst and the formation and evolution of the high redshift galaxy. He led projects supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, projects supported by the Joint Fund of Astronomy, and the Program for New Century Excellent Talents of the Ministry of Education. He participated in several research projects including those supported by the Fund for Creative Research Groups of the National Natural Science Foundation, the Key Program of the Foundation, and the 973 Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology. He has published 50 SCI papers.
