Abstract: The scaling relations between galaxy key quantities, including stellar mass, star formation rate, gas content, metallicity, size and kinematics, and their evolution out to high red to high redhe backbone of the empirical picture for galaxy formation and evolution. We present recent progress on characterizing the scaling relations of star formation and dust obscuration across cosmic time and discuss their implications to galaxy evolution. A comprehensive picture emerges to link star formation, structure buildup and chemical enrichment together.  

Bio:
XianZhong Zheng is a research professor in Purple Mountain observatory, CAS,  and leading a research group on galaxy formation and wide-field survey. He obtained his PhD in astrophysics in 2002 from the National Astronomical Observatories, CAS, and worked as a postdoc in Observatoire de Paris-Meudon and the Max-Planck Institute in Astronomy (MPIA) in Heidelberg from 2003 to 2007. He joined Purple Mountain Observatoin ObservatoHis research interests are mostly on observational studies of galaxy formation and evolution.
