ABSTRACT: In this presentation, I will offer a concise description of
four Integral Field Spectroscopy Surveys, encompassing those that have
undergone remastering, are presently ongoing, or are anticipated in the
near future. These surveys derive data from Spanish Observatories and
are fundamentally aimed at deepening our understanding of galaxy
evolution. I will delineate their core scientific objectives, briefly
touch upon the key instrumentation employed, and spotlight noteworthy
preliminary discoveries, including one that has been recently published
in Nature.
BIO: Dr. Ruben Garcia Benito is a Senior Scientist at the Instituto de
Astrofísica de Andalucía (IAA) within the Spanish National Research
Council (CSIC). His expertise spans galaxy evolution, stellar
populations, and the interstellar medium, and he has also contributed to
instrumentation projects. Previously, he served as a Research Fellow at
the Peking University Kavli Institute. With a prolific publication
record, he has authored over 130 papers featured in journals including
Nature, A&A, and ApJ.
Apart from his scientific pursuits, he holds a B.A. in Sinology. He has
also engaged in scholarly pursuits related to musicology, focusing on
historical cross-cultural and musical exchanges. Notably, he has been
supported by the Shanghai Conservatory of Music for several stays. He
has published a CD commemorating the 450th birth anniversary of Spanish
Jesuit musician Diego de Pantoja (庞迪我).
Additionally, he founded CosMonic, a pioneering project that introduces
scientific data sonification for outreach, artistic expression, and
scientific analysis. This innovative initiative explores the auditory
dimension, providing an alternative understanding of astrophysics
through sound.
