Abstract:
A wealth of fast astrophysical transients can be followed-up with many different facilities (space-born and ground-based). I will describe the Fast X-ray and Optical transients zoo and discuss the possibility of some of them being due to relativistic explosions.
Introduction to speaker:
Alberto J. CASTRO-TIRADO is a Spanish astrophysicist, and since 2012, Full Research Professor at Institute of Astrophysics of Andalucía (IAA), under the auspices of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC). He got a Ph.D. degree in Copenhagen University in 1994 focusing in High-energy Astrophysics and nowadays he is working in multi-wavelength Astronomy, especially in relation to compact objects (neutron stars, black holes) including gamma-ray bursts (the most energetic phenomena in the Universe after the Big Bang) and in electromagnetic counterparts to gravitational wave and neutrino emitters. In 2001 he founded the Robotic Astronomy and High Energy Physics (ARAE) group at IAA-CSIC.
